How often must a company train its employees in health and safety?
Every employee completes induction health and safety training when they start. Refresher training is usually carried out once every two years, more often for high-risk occupations and managers. The exact interval is set by the employer in its documentation based on the risk assessment.
How often are fire extinguishers inspected?
A fire extinguisher is checked at least once a year. The periodic test, which includes a pressure test of the cylinder, is carried out every three years for water and foam extinguishers and every five years for the others. This follows from Czech Decree No. 246/2001 Coll.
When does a company need an OHS coordinator on a construction site?
An OHS coordinator is mandatory if contractors from more than one company work on the site and the scope of work exceeds the limit set by law. The client’s obligation follows from Czech Act No. 309/2006 Coll.
What does health and safety documentation contain?
Typically a risk assessment, work categorisation, rules for providing personal protective equipment, an emergency (trauma) plan, training outlines and records of completed training. The scope varies with the size of the company and the nature of its operations.
